Terra Wortmann Preview, Odds & Prediction

The Terra Wortmann Open, or Halle Open as it is also known, is played at the same time at the Queen’s Club Championships. This event is staged in Germany, and was only recently upgraded to a 500 series tournament. The event this year has attracted some big names, and you can find out more about the leading contenders and event details below.

Terra Wortmann Details & Records

Like the Queen’s Club Championships, the Terra Wortmann Open is also staged on a grass surface. It is one of the big prep tournaments before the start of Wimbledon, which is the third Grand Slam event of the year. However, before 2015, it hadn’t attracted the same calibre of players, as it was competed as a 250 series event. But, that changed in 2015, as the competition was upgraded.

The biggest matches of the competition will be played at the Gerry Weber Stadion, which can house up to 12,300 fans. One of the biggest stars to have achieved success at the event in Germany is Roger Federer, who won ten titles from the 13 appearances that he made. His most recent success came in 2019. The competition wasn’t held in 2020, but it made its return in 2021 with French player Ugo Humbert winning in straight sets against Andrey Rublev.

Leading Contenders

Interestingly, a number of the leading contenders in the BetXchange betting markets for the event will not be able to compete at Wimbledon this year. That is down to the decision by SW19 organisers to ban Russian and Belarusian players from competing at the Grand Slam. Still, that doesn’t stop Daniil Medvedev from being a leading contender in the competition. The Russian player was recently beaten in the final of the S-Hertogenbosch, but will be looking to make amends at this competition in Germany. The 26-year-old claimed a first Grand Slam success last year, as he won the US Open. However, he doesn’t have as strong of a record on the grass, as he has a win rate of 67%. He was beaten in the fourth round at Wimbledon last year.

Nick Kyrgios is expected to go far in the competition this year after reaching the semi-finals of the Stuttgart Open on the grass last week. Last year’s winner Ugo Humbert will be looking to regain some momentum, as he was disappointingly beaten in the round of 32 of the Stuttgart Open earlier this month. But, he should have a leading chance having won this event 12 months ago.

However, a chance could be taken on Canadian star Felix Auger-Aliassime for the Terra Wortmann Open this year. The 21-year-old reached the semi-finals of the S-Hertogenbosch earlier this month, which included a straight sets win against Karen Khachanov in the quarterfinals. He certainly has some excellent form on the grass, as he reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon for the first time in his career last year. He could be a solid value play at the current prices.
